If redemption came at a cost, how much would you be willing to pay?
In Atonement, Ronald Cheng breaks away from his comedic persona to co-direct and star in this emotionally charged action drama about a father's fight against the darkness to save his daughter.
A-lung (played by Ronald Cheng) lives a humble life in a working-class neighborhood with his 8-year-old daughter Ying-ying (Shun Ying Fu). Despite their hardships, they find warmth in each other. But their world shatters when Ying-ying mysteriously disappears during a trip to Thailand. With the police out of leads, A-lung takes matters into his own hands, unraveling a horrifying human trafficking ring. Pushed to his limits, he sacrifices everything — even his morality — in a desperate attempt to bring his daughter home.
To embody this raw and relentless character, Ronald Cheng underwent half a year of intense physical training, gaining 30 pounds and performing most of his own stunts. The result? Gritty, hard-hitting action scenes that feel painfully real — and a performance that’s as emotionally powerful as it is physically demanding.
The film also stars seasoned actors Chrissie Chau and Philip Keung, adding emotional depth and narrative tension. Director Ronald Cheng emphasizes that Atonement is not just a tale of vengeance — it's a story about how far a father's love can carry him through hell. When your only light in life is taken away, how do you find hope in the darkness?
“Some wounds can heal. But some pain... you carry with love.”
With its first trailer already stirring buzz, Atonement delivers a dark, fast-paced atmosphere intertwined with emotional weight — a film poised to be one of this year’s most anticipated Hong Kong action dramas.
🗓️ April 18 — step into the cinema, and witness A-lung give it all… for the only light he has left.
