When life’s personal hell hasn’t yet ended, the journey of the film continues.
Following its stellar box office performance and rave reviews, The Last Dance returns this Ching Ming Festival with an extended edition, hitting theatres on April 4. Featuring 12 minutes of unseen footage, this new cut offers a more complete and emotionally resonant story of family, faith, and forgiveness.
In this version, viewers will discover more nuanced storytelling—such as a newly revealed connection between the main plot and the younger brother played by Terrance Lau. A solo emotional outburst scene by Jennifer Yu’s character, Ko Man-yuet, also gives deeper insight into her inner struggle and transformation. These additions not only enrich the character arcs but also elevate the film’s emotional depth.
The story follows master Taoist priest Man (Michael Hui) as he navigates unresolved tensions with his children through a series of funerary rites, cultural clashes, and attempts to mend broken ties. Alongside him is newcomer to the funeral trade, Wai (Dayo Wong), with whom he develops an unexpected mentor-student bond. Using the traditional “Breaking Hell” ritual as its central motif, the film symbolically mirrors life’s trials and the inner demons we all face.
Director Gavin Lin (Chan Mau-yin) handles this farewell not merely as a send-off for the dead, but as a healing passage for the living. The extended version offers the final, immersive layer of this emotional journey—a richer experience, a deeper release.
💡 Notably, tickets for the extended version are priced at $80, with part of the proceeds donated to Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, continuing the film’s spirit of compassion through real-world action.
