Synopsis

Ching is a forensic psychiatrist who has the power to enter a person’s subconscious. On her latest case, she suspects that another psychiatrist is responsible for a brutal murder-suicide involving a social worker. While investigating the case with a police detective, Ching finds herself under suspicion as she comes face-to-face with a trauma from her own past. Stylish and gripping, Glenn Chan’s directorial debut is a breathtaking psychological thriller about the evil that is subconsciously embedded in our minds, and the terrifying consequences that ensue when the evil is unleashed.

Director’s Statement

Every person’s mind carries two forces: one that makes us stronger, and another that can destroy us. Human thoughts are full of contradictions — powerful yet fragile — while reality remains cruel.

“Shadows” is a story about the struggle between good and evil in human nature. It asks whether people would sacrifice others in order to redeem themselves. At its core, it is also about confronting oneself with honesty and bearing the consequences of every action
